APPARATUS REQUIRED:

  • Logic gate ICs (e.g., AND, OR, NOT)
  • Breadboard
  • Connecting wires
  • LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes)
  • Resistors
  • Power supply
  • Switches or push buttons
  • Logic probe

THEORY:

Logic gates are fundamental building blocks of digital circuits. They perform logical operations based on binary inputs (0 or 1) and produce binary outputs. The experiment aims to verify the functioning of different logic gates, such as AND, OR, and NOT gates.

PROCESS:

  1. Set up a breadboard with logic gate ICs, LEDs, resistors, and connecting wires.
  2. Connect the logic gates according to the desired circuit configuration.
  3. Use switches or push buttons as input devices.
  4. Connect LEDs to observe the output states.
  5. Apply power to the circuit and test the logic gates with various input combinations.
  6. Verify the expected output states using a logic probe.

OBSERVATIONS:

Record the observed output states for different input combinations of logic gates.

OBSERVATION TABLE:

Input AInput BOutput (AND gate)Output (OR gate)Output (NOT gate)
00001
01011
10010
11110

RESULTS:

The experiment successfully verifies the functioning of logic gates, and the observed output states match the expected logic operations.

PRECAUTIONS:

  1. Ensure correct placement and orientation of logic gate ICs on the breadboard.
  2. Check the proper connection of input devices, LEDs, and resistors.
  3. Avoid short circuits and loose connections.
  4. Use appropriate values of resistors for LED protection.
  5.
  6. Double-check the logic probe readings for accuracy.
